What is a pattern language?

One of my major interests these days is in pattern languages, and how they solve a certain kind of problem we have in modern civilization. Related to that, I am interested in why pattern languages are sometimes NOT used, particularly by architects. That's all the more ironic, because pattern languages were invented by an architect. (My background is architecture too.)

There is a relation to the kind of wiki we are exploring here, and to wiki itself. Wiki was originally developed as a tool to exchange patterns and pattern languages in software design. So it seems fitting to continue that exploration in this new wiki.

So I'm going to construct a little tutorial here, a brief overview. If you're interested to have a look, click on the link below and we'll explore the topics. Comments are most welcome and appreciated.

Another interest of mine is music, including electronic music, and I see that Mike Caulfield also has that interest. Here is a recent and fun little experiment in Using YouTube as a musical instrument!
